Mummy's MOT at Team Physio
Updated: Mar 2
Statistics show 1 in 3 women will have pelvic pain following delivery, 45% will have incontinence seven years after having a baby and 50% will have a prolapse following a natural birth. The Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal examination for women following both vaginal and cesarean deliveries. It will assess how your posture; pelvic floor muscles and stomach muscles are recovering after birth.
Looking after a new baby is challenging because it needs to be constantly lifted and carried for changing and bathing him/her. This can add strain to the body, and without guidance, long term issues can occur.
If you’re not recovering from your delivery, then here at Team Physio we can provide you with exercises and treatment to help in your recovery and return to exercise safely.
What to expect from Team Physio?
As with all of our patients at Team Physio, we feel that having time to fully discuss your symptoms, goals and expectations is as important as the physical examination itself, so we dedicate a full 1-hour Assessment for our Mummy MOT's. This includes:
Full postural screen
Pelvic floor muscle assessment
Abdominal muscle exam to check for any separation
Screening for any bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
Education and advice on safe baby-care activities such as lifting your baby or pushing a buggy
Written report of the findings of your assessment
In cases where either the presentation is complex, or the clients goals are more involved, we may not be able to complete all of the above in a single assessment. In these situations our specialist in the field Minal, will explain this to you and encourage you to choose which are the most important aims from the assessment, so that these objectives can be met. It these scenarios, or where specific patient goals negate it, follow up sessions with Minal may be recommend. These will then provide the time to develop a bespoke rehabilitation program with your particular goals and lifestyle factors, in mind.
